Executive Director: Lisa Nichols
Elizabeth (Lisa) Lamb Nichols is a deaconess serving as a Church and Community Worker as Executive Director of the Henry Fork Service Center in Rocky Mount, Virginia. A native of Bristol, Tennessee, Lisa earned a B.A. degree in elementary education in 1980 from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia.
Lisa shares the mission of the Center – “Making God’s love visible in our community”. “I have seen the staff and students work together to share God’s love through words and actions. As the students learn the history of God’s people, they are called to respond to God’s love and invite others to join the journey.”
Henry Fork works with volunteers from Ferrum College and work teams from across the southeast. Work teams share Vacation Bible School with elementary and middle school students, work on building repairs and lawn care, and work to complete the children’s activity building. Work teams include participants of all ages and are welcome for a day, a week-end or a week,
Lisa previously served as the Director of Programs for the St. Andrews Center and Executive Director of the St. Elmo/Alton Park Partners in Tennessee. In those positions she directed after-school programs for Cub Scouts, ESOL high school students as well as 60 plus elementary students at the St. Andrews Center and South Chattanooga Recreation Center.
Lisa enjoys enabling student participation in outdoor activities. Students have hiked around downtown Chattanooga, on the Riverwalk and in Chickamauga Battlefield. The have learned about geology and physical science through hands-on activities at Cloudland Canyon and Red Clay State Parks. “I’m looking forward to exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway and southern Virginia with our Henry Fork students. We are planning field trips to area parks, lakes and recreation facilities for our elementary and middle school students.”
Lisa and husband Gary Nichols have two daughters – Sara is a Junior at Emory and Henry College near Abingdon, VA; she is majoring in Sociology and Public Policy and Community Service. Sara worked with her class to organize a 5K run this spring to benefit the Glade Spring community. Sara played flute with the Pep Band during Football Season and sang in the Concert Choir first semester.
Jessica is a Senior at Franklin County High School. She is active in Marching and Symphonic Band, playing the flute and piccolo. Jessica volunteers at Henry Fork Center in the afternoon and is President of the HFSC Venture Crew. Jessica is also active with the Redwood UMC Youth Group, serves as one of the their representatives to the District Youth Council, and will represent the Danville District as an at-large member to the VA Annual Conference.
Program Director: Jessica Hunt
Jessica Hunt, Program Director, a long time employee at the Henry Fork Center, holds an Associate’s Degree from Patrick Henry Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Ferrum College . She oversees the Preschool, After school, and Summer programming at the Henry Fork Center . Responsibilities include coordinating transportation for 50 students, Christian Education and enrichment components, and the USDA Summer Feeding Program. Jessica works with after school and summer teachers and substitutes to plan and implement education and recreational activities for each age group.
Jessica also serves as teacher for the preschool from 9:00-12:00 and lead teacher for 4th and 5th grade teacher.
